The Joy of Soap Can Save Your Winter Skin

If your skin is feeling a little more, um, reptilian these days, maybe it’s time to switch your soap. Many of your typical drugstores brands contain harsh detergents and other ingredients that can actually dry out your skin. If your skin is flaky and dull, try this for an ingredients list instead:

Saponified olive palm, coconut and castor oils; grapefruit and sweet orange essential oils; calendula flower petals; and nothing else.

This list comes from one of our new favorite products, The Joy of Soap. The brains (and brawn) behind this line, Melissa Hutcheson, started making her own soap when the “over the counter” stuff just wasn’t cutting it. Her natural soaps are homemade and contain only the finest quality ingredients like therapeutic grade lavender essential oil and ground rosemary leaves (they act as a natural exfoliant). Not only can you feel good about what these little luxuries are made of, but the addictive scents will have you coming back for more.

As if we weren’t already head over heels for this stuff, the just-a-little-naughty names and adorable packaging make them a perfect gift for a BF, a soon to be bride or your wild single gal pals! Our favorites (for both their names and scents) are Feeling Frisky, a blend of grapefruit and orange essential oils and Lay Me Down Lavender, lavender oil with just a tad of rose.

You can get your hands on these little slices of heaven starting at just $3.50 for a 2 oz bar (good for hand soap). A larger 5 oz size (good for the bath) is also available for just $7.50. Check out their website for the full selection of products.
