It’s almost June, and if you didn’t plan ahead and become good “friends” with that dude in your office with the sweet roof-top apartment near Wrigley Field, then shame on you. On the other hand, we suppose we should congratulate you for not being vapid and shallow. Bravo!

You see, at PLRG we’ve got our Cubs pre and post game rituals down to science. In our experience, we’ve found that sometimes the only way to offset the $6.50 Old Styles at the friendly confines is via an intense pre-gaming regime involving duct-taped on 40’s (Eduardo Litros Manos for our Spanish speaking friends) and shots of Skol.

But if you’d prefer to not celebrate the Cubs victory with your new friends from the Betty Ford Clinic, then here are a few of our favorite spots near the stadium. Read on, and please, keep it classy ladies.

Moxie (3517 N. Clark)
Yes, it’s a little bit more upscale than the usual haunts in Wrigley, but they also happen to serve the best Dark & Stormy in the city, their pizza of the day always rocks and the small tapas style portions enable you to grab food before the game and not feel too guilty about getting a Chicago Dog in the top of the 6th.

Bernie’s Tavern (3664 N. Clark)
A Wrigley tradition and by far the best and biggest beer garden we’ve seen in awhile. The beers, burgers and brats are cheap and delicious. Plus, it’s literally right across the street from the field. Enough said.

Roadhouse 66 (3330 N. Clark)
If you’re willing to go slightly off the beaten path, you will find this little gem that Lacey considers to be “just like Cheers.” A bar we don’t have to dedicate years to before we’re treated like regulars? Signed, sealed, delivered… it’s ours.

Newport Bar & Grill (1334 W. Newport)
Another “off the beaten path,” this is a sure-fire, not too packed bar for post game. The stars aligned one night a few months back when a few of us PLRG’s stumbled upon this bar. Como se dice $2 PBR’s? We can’t vouch that the deals will be that great on game day, but we can tell you that you’ll have one of the best (albeit dive-iest) nights of your life. Oh, and just a warning: the regulars get a bit disgruntled when you play Meatloaf on the jukebox… on repeat.

So the PLRG launch parties went swimmingly (be sure to keep an eye out for the pics in our Gallery, coming later this week)! Soiree and Moxie were perfect venues and everyone from the owners to the managers to the staff took such good care of our crowd, we couldn’t be happier. If you haven’t been to these bars/restaurants so should definitely check them out soon. Some highlights from each are below.

Moxie (3517 N. Clark St.)
This Wrigleyville spot is not your typical Cubs hangout. While you can definitely grab a beer and catch the game there, you will also feel perfectly at home ordering a Cosmo and sampling some of their “small plates” style dishes. They offer food specials, including a different half priced appetizer each day (we like the Southwestern Crab Cakes on Tuesdays) and killer drink specials too ($3 call drinks on Thursdays are a steal). The staff is extra friendly and more than happy to walk you through the menu and make suggestions. We love relaxing in their comfy booths to escape the madness of the Cubs fans outside and we think you’ll love it too.

Soiree (2438 N. Lincoln Ave.)
Practically next door to DePaul, this bar and lounge is perfect for all our Lincoln Park girls out there. Head over on a Wednesday to take advantage of the ½ price appetizers and $5 martinis. Late nights feature a DJ spinning and a beautiful crowd, so make sure you dress to impress. And, if you need a moment to catch your breath, head to the ladies room which occupies the entire lower level. With seating and mirrors galore, this out of the ordinary restroom gives you and your posse a place to regroup and dish on the hot guys upstairs. Rumor has it they may even be opening a bar down there!
