The Shots Are On Us

Want to take a shot?

Jameson, Jäger and Jack Daniels jokes aside, Redken has come out with a deep conditioning “shot” that won’t provoke you to show off your killer dance moves late night at The Hangge-Uppe.

This week I sat down with Senior Stylist, Stacy McCuskey, at Swerve Salon to give it a shot (pun totally intended). I have to say that my distressed hair and I were very impressed.

Here’s the low-down:
The Chemistry System consists of 6 different “shots” that compliment different hair types: All Soft, Smooth Down, Real Control, Clear Moisture, Color Extend and Extreme.

“Extreme is essentially a protein shot for severely chemically compromised hair.” says Stacy. “This time of year I get a lot of clients feeling dull and lifeless, blame the winter, but the chemistry system is a great way to add some zest to your hairstyle without doing anything too drastic.” We even think it will do the same for your self-esteem this time of year.

The Results?
I tried a combo of All Soft and Smooth Down and could immediately feel the difference before Stacy even blew out my hair. I’m currently on day three after the shot and still feeling the effects. Talk about a hangover we could get used to!

Per usual, we’re going to hook up our PLRG readers with a KILLER DEAL so you guys can take a shot on us.

Book a “shot” at Swerve Salon with your coloring treatment and receive a FREE haircut
OR
Book a “shot” at Swerve Salon with your haircut and score a FREE Redken Shampoo and Conditioner- (no travel sized bottles…we’re not screwing around here ladies)

Swerve Salon is located at 1419 N. Wells 2nd floor, make sure you mention PoorLittleRichGirls.com when booking your appointment. This offer cannot be combined with any other offer.

Smokin’ Deal at Salon 1800

Smokin’ Deal at Salon 1800

It’s February in Chicago and at PLRG we’d like to (wishfully) think that Mother Nature is paying homage to our “Hot” issue by sending 60 degree days our way. It’s times like these that make us realize exactly what Ferris Bueller was doing when he took his day off.

In any case, if you decide to play hooky from work to enjoy this pseudo Springtime, go scope out this deal and kill a few birds with one stone. Salon 1800 is offering you 30% off selected services (i.e. haircuts, facials, mani/pedis) if you book your appointment before 3pm on Sunday-Thursday. Math isn’t exactly our forte but we do know an affordable bikini wax when we see one (ask for Amanda, we swear by her).

Stop by either Salon 1800 location: 157 W. North Avenue or 1133 W. Armitage and enjoy a well deserved day off from work.

Lobster for Less (way less!)

Lobster for Less (way less!)

At the risk of sounding like a TJ Maxx commercial, the Lobster Fisherman’s current dilemma is your “shopporunity.” Due to the economic downturn and its perception as a luxury food item, lobster sales are down. Waaay down. Last year, lobsters cost $4.50-$5 per pound, but this year they have dropped to $2.80-$4 per pound. This drop in price has nothing to due with the quality of the lobster, but rather with the basic principles of supply and demand.

So, if you ever wanted to live like a queen and feast on this delicacy, now is the time. The bang for your buck is unreal with lobster tails selling for $6 right now at Dominick’s. Many other grocers are offering great prices too. We think this would make a perfect luxe New Year’s day dinner (if you aren’t too hung-over to cook a meal).

Morton’s Sweet Dinner Deal (ends Dec. 31)

Morton’s Sweet Dinner Deal (ends Dec. 31)

Ladies, we are so sorry we did not find out about this deal sooner. We really just assumed that a place like Morton’s was always going to be out of  our price range and let it fall off our radar. Let this be a lesson to all PoorLittleRichGirls that you can have your steak (and seafood too!) you just have to keep an eye out for specials.

In honor of their 30th Anniversary Morton’s is offering a three course meal for $49.50 per person. Now, this is not some chintzy ”tasting” or “sharing” menu. Each dinner includes a choice of salad, a filet, choice of shrimp, scallops or crab cake, choice of side and choice of dessert. Although $50 is still not a cheap meal, when you consider that a filet at Morton’s normally runs around $39 a pop, this anniversary special is really a great value.

Being that this is an anniversary deal, it is only available until December 31, 2008. The special is available until midnight on December 31, so it’s a great idea for a fancy New Year’s Eve dinner. Honestly, we dare you to find this kind of menu package anywhere else. (And, if you do, please let us know of course!)

Two Great Ideeli Sales This Week

Hype handbags: Save up to 67% off. Ideeli prices start at $95. Thursday November 19th

Believe the hype: You know those handbags you’ve been seeing everywhere? The ones filling up more magazine space than Brangelina? The ones popping up in Glamour, In Style, Lucky and everywhere else you’ve turned in recent months? Well, we know where they’re coming from.

Hype is an up-and-coming clothing and accessories brand worth watching for its smart and stylish designs. Designer Elizabeth Angleton, who trained at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, is the mastermind behind these pieces and she certainly knows how we like our totes. Using the best Italian leathers, the California-based Angleton produces some knockout designs, yet never forgets that a bag also needs to be functional, spacious and versatile if it’s going to get much play on our shoulders. You’ll find yourself reaching for your Hype handbag over and over-and that’s not just spin.

Gustto Handbags: Save up to 64%. Ideeli prices start at $205. Friday November 20th

Culture Vulture: As if it weren’t enough that Gustto founder Agathe Planchon is smart, beautiful, and worldly; she also helms one of the most heralded new fashion and accessory brands to launch in the last few years. Her handbags have already been featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and WWD, to name a few. What makes the American fashion press pay so much attention to this newcomer? Perhaps it’s the curious fact that all this European glam is coming from a San Diego-based design house.

“I come from a country of culture. Growing up in France, good taste, sophistication and glamour were always important aspects of my life,” Planchon tells us. We can’t tell whether it’s nature or nurture that granted her such impeccable taste, but we’re glad she’s putting her cultural conditioning to good use, designing handbags like these. With their chic silhouettes, Gustto handbags will be raising American highbrows for some time to come.
